Outstanding Leadership Qualities

Ability to gain employee’s loyalty:

This may sound easy, but unless you are a mind-reader it is not always apparent how your employees may feel about you.  Two essential components of loyalty are 1) sharing of yourself and your life and 2) listening actively when they are speaking.  Just as your do in your personal relationships, there needs to be a level of vulnerability and mutual exchange of information.  After all – employees don’t leave companies they leave their bosses!

Work alongside them:

Spending a day shadowing your employee may go a long way to understanding their challenges and appreciating their perspective. Additionally, your employees will appreciate your time and will not quickly forget their time in the trenches with you.

Makes procedures personal:

Tell a story!!  Leaders often spend their time trying to get their employees to follow processes and procedures.  When we are able to tell them why and perhaps even a time when you struggled to follow a procedure it comes to life!  They no longer see you as someone who is an enforcer but rather a human with care and concern for others.

Leadership can be challenging but also rewarding when we see employees grown professionally.
